There is only one means of discovering the true nature of Christianity. We must step out upon this path, commit ourselves to this way of life, and then we shall begin to see for ourselves. So long as we remain outside, we cannot properly understand.
Certainly we need to be given directions before we [...]

St. Paul once said that followers of the Way are “baptized by one Spirit into one body.”
Sunday evening was a testimony to this word as three different churches across 50 miles of sun kissed landscape joined together for a baptism party at a local lake.
Members of the [...]

Come, my Light, and illumine my darkness.
Come, my Life, and revive me from death.
Come, my Physician, and heal my wounds.
Come, Flame of divine love, and burn up the thorns of my sins, kindling my heart with the flame of thy love.
Come, my King, [...]
As some of you know, I found out that my favorite coffee shop closed down this week – or, more specially, I found out that it was closed this week as I was awol for two weeks due to being sick.
This closer poses several problems as this shop was the source of my tea leaves and Chai mixture…however, the worse problem was the challenge to find a new place to de-stress during my lunch hour.
Luckily God sent some help yesterday in the form of a friend who suggested getting a cup of coffee at the Moxie Java on Five Mile and Overland. Not having anything else going on, I agreed to the meeting and wondered over their thinking that it would be a small, stale place with hard chairs and an echo. One of the most common misconceptions of the Bible is the idea that Old Testament teaches salvation through works (i.e. obeying the Mosaic law) while the New Testament is all about grace and love. This is a misconception that goes back to John Calvin and Martin Luther.
Yet, it is a misconception as the entire Bible is about grace.
Yes, God did put certain laws in place through Moses. But these laws were built upon a foundation of grace and mercy as it was through His grace that He delivered the Israelites from Egypt. Paul highlights this unity in Galatians when he draws attention to Abraham’s ‘salvation’ experience in Genesis 15 where his belief in God was counted upon to him as righteousness.
It is this covenant of mercy and grace that drives Daniel Fuller’s book “The Unity of the Bible: Unfolding God’s Plan for Humanity.”
Drawing upon the first half of Genesis, Fuller lays out a pretty complete agreement showing the unity of the Bible. However, while his theology is pretty sound, I couldn’t help but feel a bit stifled. Fuller seemed to have an answer for every situation; shoot, it seemed that he spent most of the book defending God and His actions – which seems a tad off to me as I think God can defend Himself with out our help.
In a nutshell, I think he removed the Story from the Bible. Continue reading The Unity of the Bible by Daniel Fuller
One of the pitfalls of trying to learn is becoming overly critical. It is also the downfall of working as a ‘cyber cop’ tracking trademark and counterfeit trends online.
Becoming overly critical
It is an easy place to find and a hard place to get out of – and unfortunately, it is a place [...]
Dishes. The bane of households everywhere.
Well, I guess not quite ‘everywhere’ – there are places where ‘dishes’ consist of tree leaves and twigs…
Dishes. The bane of most households.
Hmm…well, how do we rate the word ‘most’? For in order to be the ‘most’ there has to be a ‘less’ and seeing how the majority of the worlds population lives STOP!!! STOP IT I SAY!!!
Sigh.

I may not be the smart guy on the block, but I can recognize a trend here and there. Unfortunately, the trend that I recognized is not a good trend…
Starting in March, my body has ransacked by three major ailments that required doctor’s visits and pharmaceutical drugs. While this may not sound like a lot to some folks, it is to me as I usually don’t see a doctor except once every two or three years. So to see one three times within five months…well, something is going on.
I don’t know if this is a sign of a spiritual attack or just the results of living in a fallen world… but either way, I believe the best response is to fall on one’s knees and start praying.
On the good side, I had plenty of time over the last few days (I was down with a lymph node infection) to catch up on some reading. Well, maybe not ‘catch up’ as I decided to forgo my regularly scheduled reading program for something a tad easier on the brain. Specifically I decided to re-enter into the world of the Sackett family in-between long naps and felling miserable. Continue reading Aliment Trends and Books; But Not Book Ailments
I was chatting to Emily this morning on the way to work when it hit me how blessed we are to be at the Payette River Vineyard. Somewhere along the way, these folks caught the value of being in community.
Specifically, we have several older gentlemen with limited hearing who regularly attend our weekly [...]

Who Writes This Mess? My name is Joshua Hopping and I am a Son of the Most High journeying through a foreign land following the Wild Goose (i.e. the Holy Spirit) one step at a time.
As I journey along the Way, I have the privilege of serving as the bi-vocational pastor of the Payette River Vineyard Christian Fellowship. I am also a voracious reader who loves studying church history, theology, and world missions.
This blog, "Requisite Danger", is a record of what God is teaching and showing me as I try to follow Him wherever He leads as well as occasional random thoughts. I pray that you will join me in this journey through online/offline interaction as this life is lived in community.
May His grace and peace be upon you.
